Freedom of Blog?

Did you know that the most rapidly growing medium of communication in Asia is via blogging? Just imagine, almost anybody who deals with computers nowadays has a website or some form of weblog of their own. WiredNews reported that in August 2002 alone, Blogger.com registered 1 new blogger every 40 seconds. Now thats alot of people we're talking. I mean forget the media, there is a totally whole new form of information exchange going on here, and it's growing, fast. Don't you feel privileged to know that you are part of this too? You are a statistic. Like us all bloggers, we are all being monitored. Oooo, now the sound of that makes me feel so wanted-by-the-police-ish. *squints around room looking for hidden spycams*
Take a look at this recently:

How much freedom in "freedom of speech" do we really have? Even in blogs? Before long, new bills and laws will have to be passed and implemented to govern these online journals as blogging will inadvertently affect the way policies are made. It may seem far-fetched, but cyber-laws have already made their way into many countries, and it is only a matter of time before it reaches our shores. And where theres law makers, theres definitely law flouters.

Not to be confused with Namewee the infamous v-logger.

  1. You don't need to have the law to be flouted even, there will always be people who take it one step further when it comes to freedom of expression.

Now I'm all for the right to speak, to be heard and for my hand to be counted (cheh, mentang2 aku dah cukup umur boleh vote. nyet nyet) but I believe that there's got to be a standard code of conduct based on morality that should be complied with when it comes to certain matters.

I'm not talking about hushing up so-called 'sensitive issues'. I'm talking about conducting the blog in an acceptable way instead of brazenly thrashing about with no regards or respect.

Take the unfortunately daft Namawee for example, and his description of the adhan as something that sounds like a cockerel.

KNOW WHERE TO DRAW THE LINE.
